Film Review - I

Got   a Hunch ?

Film: I
Cast: Vikram, Amy Jackson, Upen Patel
Directed by: Shankar
Duration: 3 hrs 6 mins
Rating: * *

Directed by Shankar, known for his big budget blockbusters, I is also an ambitious project.  With a running length that clocks over 3 hours, it leaves you numb, physically and mentally.

There is no doubt that Shankar has got flair and his own style but it is the repetitiveness that gets to you. There are scenes that go on and on till the cows and buffaloes come home and what can be said in five minutes takes more than twice the amount of time.

At the heart of it, I is a story of vendetta. Lingesan (Vikram) is a bodybuilder who is a big fan of Diya (Amy Jackson), a model. Lingesan becomes Lee and thanks to his proximity with Diya, he also turns into a successful model. That makes the other male model (Upen Patel) very jealous and when Lee and Diya become more lovers, a transgender make-up artist also wants to get even with him.

After being injected with a virus, Lee turns into a deformed hunchback and in this avatar, he wants to settle scores with those who turned him into this state.

Virtually every scene drags on forever right from the body building competition at the beginning, their trip to China and even the fight scenes, the editor must have fallen asleep on the editing table.

As a result, whatever little essence is there in the story is lost due to the over kill. Considerable effort has gone in the choreographing the fight sequences and even the songs are filmed with a certain zing, now if only they could trim the whole film by half.
